Kerala Government Launches Statewide Drive to Correct Land Fair Value Anomalies

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM — Responding swiftly to persistent public discontent, the Government of Kerala has officially commenced a comprehensive administrative procedure to identify and correct glaring discrepancies in the fair value of real estate across the state. The intervention comes in the wake of numerous citizen grievances highlighting how inflated property valuations have disproportionately increased financial liabilities for ordinary landowners.
Fair value metrics serve as the foundational benchmark for calculating state stamp duty and registration fees during property transactions. Over recent years, inconsistencies and abrupt valuation spikes in various districts created substantial hurdles for real estate buyers and sellers, leading to widespread appeals for a systematic review of the state's assessment mechanisms.
According to reports by The Hindu, Revenue Minister A.P. Anilkumar confirmed that the administration has taken formal cognisance of these systemic issues and has issued strict directives to all District Collectors. Officials have been instructed to rigorously examine pending complaints and swiftly rectify the identified anomalies based on formal petitions submitted by affected residents.
Looking ahead, this localized grievance redressal framework is expected to streamline property transactions and bring much-needed relief to the state's housing and commercial sectors. The Revenue Department will closely monitor the appeals process to ensure swift execution, signaling a broader commitment to transparent and citizen-centric governance in land administration.
