Telangana Chief Minister Pushes for Tummidihatti Barrage Talks and Srisailam Water Diversion

HYDERABAD — Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has formally instructed top state engineering and administrative officials to formulate a robust strategy aimed at persuading neighboring Maharashtra to support the construction of a 152-meter Full Reservoir Level (FRL) barrage at Tummidihatti. The directive, issued during a high-level review meeting, marks a fresh push by the state administration to unlock critical irrigation milestones and address longstanding riparian negotiations.
This latest diplomatic and technical initiative builds upon years of complex interstate water-sharing discussions across the Godavari and Krishna river basins. The Tummidihatti project holds immense strategic value for Telangana's agrarian framework, making inter-state consensus a vital prerequisite for construction and optimal reservoir operation.
According to reports by The Hindu, the Chief Minister's directives also encompass immediate logistical and technical arrangements to draw an additional 0.6 TMC ft of water from the Srisailam reservoir. By leveraging the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme (PRLIS) pumping infrastructure, the administration aims to adequately feed the Dindi and Achampet irrigation initiatives.
Looking ahead, state officials are expected to finalize the dialogue framework for the Maharashtra engagement while simultaneously fast-tracking the infrastructural modifications needed at Srisailam. These concurrent developments are anticipated to significantly reshape water allocation efficiencies and agricultural productivity across Southern Telangana in the upcoming fiscal cycle.
