Alcohol-Fueled Violence Claims Two Lives in Separate Incidents Across Assam

GUWAHATI — In a grim span of twenty-four hours, two separate violent altercations fueled by heavy alcohol consumption resulted in fatalities across the Sonitpur and Golaghat districts of Assam, local authorities reported.
These sudden acts of lethal domestic and public violence underscore a persistent, deep-seated crisis regarding substance abuse and inadequate impulse control within vulnerable communities. Domestic disputes and public brawls amplified by cheap liquor have historically plagued certain rural and semi-urban pockets of the northeastern state, placing immense strain on local peacekeeping efforts.
According to reports broadcast by News Live TV (Assam), the first tragedy unfolded in the Rangapara area of Sonitpur, where an intoxicated individual allegedly murdered his wife during a domestic dispute. In the second incident, which occurred in Rangajan within the Golaghat district, a vicious drunken brawl escalated rapidly, culminating in a man being fatally hacked to death.
As regional police divisions continue gathering evidence and pursuing suspects in both homicide cases, community leaders and civil society organizations are calling for stricter enforcement of liquor regulations and enhanced public awareness campaigns to curb alcohol-related violence moving forward.
